What must it be like to live in a household where your parents have to limit each child to only four glasses of milk per meal?

Gabby Anderson is back in New Zealand after returning from Australia and she has learnt some things! Chief among; keeping mince in your pockets might make her friends with magpies, but not humans.

Anderson’s energy is like the breeze you feel in your most nostalgic of memories, if those memories were also on speed (complimentary). Her delivery is fast paced and silly, with great use of callbacks, and she has the fun and friendly spirit of an early 2000s pop star.

I had to look up the synopsis after the snow to check my understanding of the intent behind it, and I think it was largely about trying to make friends and find common ground with people, more than about finding herself. I also don’t think the theme is as important as the overall experience of the work, and that work was so incredibly warm, uplifting, and down to earth. There were these candid moments where she engaged with the audience and the audience engaged with each other that were so friendly and connecting.

This show is an absolute must for people who love kind, conversational, self contained chaos, as well as dynamic and clever writing.

Disclosure: As a somewhat active member of the Wellington performing arts community, I may be quite familiar with a number of the performers in this show. Having said that, I am not a liar, and there is zero bias in my reviews, shut up.

Also, tickets were provided to me for free by the production. Literally changes nothing, though
