I’m a big fan of cheese. And I’m a big fan of being rich. So when the title of Mr. Go’s Welly on a Plate offering evokes both cheesiness and wealth, you’d better believe I’m in.

It’s taken a little longer than I would have liked to get to the Fromage & Fortune, but like all good things, it came to me when I waited. It’s loaded with a bunch of great Chinese flavours that hit exactly where they need to without being overwhelmingly spicy.

The pork belly is delicious. It’s soft, buttery, and impeccably seasoned. The green chilli pickle adds both acidity and heat which pulls its punch, but for the better, in my opinion. The spice isn’t allowed to completely takeover the delicious brie which nails that hint of smelliness that the cheese is known for. Holding it all together is a rou jia mo bun that’s crispy more than anything else. It’s feels like more of a cracker than traditional bread, but agains the softness of the pork and cheese, it’s a welcome textural shift.

This is a really well designed burger and ticks all the boxes for me. It’s packed with flavour and it’s easy to wolf down in a couple of bites.
