A quick lunch with friends is sometimes all you need after a tough morning. You wait a little while for a burger and you get get chatting about your friend’s soulmate, whom she’s just met. You talk about theatre and common disdain for flashbacks in improvised theatre. You’re laughing, enjoying your burgers in the cold Wellington sun, then suddenly, time has just flown by and you’re late for your next meeting.
Sometimes you just wanna spend time with some Quirky Ladies.
And it is quirky. The bun is infused with a subtle pandan which adds more colour than it does flavour. The chicken is crispy despite the coleslaw doing its best to drown it in dressing. There’s a cheeky little crunch of a daikon radish slice just slipped under the chicken for some much needed crunch and acidity. The fries are long, and taste like the crisps you can only find in the Asian supermarkets. The overall flavour is reminiscient of a Bánh mì without the paté.
But the best part of the Quirky Lady the the little wanton that comes on the side. It’s like a little handbag bursting with cheese and spice while the outside holds its shape no matter how you bite. Be careful, as it squirts. It’s tightly packed.
It’s a great little lunch package to enjoy with friends in the park. A burger that doesn’t overwhelm you with complexity, but sits there casually listening in, occasionally dropping some gossip or prompting you to steal some napkins from a neighbouring restaurants. It’s a fun little Quirky Lady and she owns it.
